Alone In Peace by JonKoomp

Absolutely beautiful! The background is dramatic and the picture is full of lots of intriguing details which suggest a story behind why...

Recently I've seen a lot photo-manipulations where the resources used have been listed in a slightly slap-dash fashion. Things like "Resources by fuguestock" or simply pasting my icon at the bottom of the comments. Now I'm glad to be shown what artists have done with my photos, but I do ask in my guidelines (as do most stockists) that you paste a link to the image used in the comments. This is really quite important to me.

Good examples:

There are a few reasons us stock artists ask to be attributed like this, but really its the first that concerns me most:
  • It makes it easy for other artists to see an element they like in your picture, and quickly find out where they can get it (which helps the stockist and other artists).
  • It makes it easy to tell if you are using legitimate resources (which helps you).
  • People can quickly see your level of skill by seeing how you have transformed the original image (which helps you).

How to credit stockist QUICKLY and EASILY

One of the reasons people do not credit resources properly is that it is actually quite a hassle making a list of stockists and their pictures after you post a piece of art. It's a virtually impossible task to track down the links for all the images you've used after the fact. You might have downloaded a hundred pictures from stockists, each with a thousand images in their gallery. The only way to do it is to save the information as you go. The simplest way to do this is that every time you download an image, save the URL (that's the bit written in the address bar) in a .txt file so you have a list when you come to the end.

However, the way that I use, which keeps all the info in the image file and lets you quickly extract it later is a little more complicated.
I hope this has been useful. If you have a better way of crediting stock I'd love to know!

I really LOVE seeing what people make out of my stock. You guys are so inventive and talented. That's why I go out stock-hunting in my spare time.

All my stock is released to be used in premade backgrounds, dA prints and on other non-commercial sites. In fact you can use my stock absolutely anywhere, so long as you attribute it and show me the results. The only restriction is you must ask before using it commercially: things like book covers, T-shirts, newspapers etc. I'll probably say yes, but I just want to know my work isn't being used for the forces of evil. I do check my messages regularly. If you are not a member of Deviant Art I can be e-mailed at, but I will take a lot longer to get back to you.

My Stock Guidelines
:bulletred:Comment on my stock image to let me know you have used it.
:bulletred:On your deviation, put a link to the image of mine you have used.
:bulletred:You can use my stock for any purpose (dA prints, pre-made bgs, websites, etc.) except if you are going to be selling the finished image/item, in which case please ask first.
:bulletblue:I'd also appreciate a fav on any of the images you use, although this isn't a rule since we all have our own faving policies!

So go and have fun making deviations! :)

Q: Can I use your image on [insert name of pony related site]?
A: Yes! Just credit me and show me what you've done with it!

Q: Can I use your image as a reference for my painting/drawing?
A: Yes! Just credit me and show me what you've done with it!

Q: Can I use your image in my school project?
A: Yes! Credit me and show me what you've done if you are able to, but I understand if it is the wrong kind of medium.

Q: Can I make pre-cut stock using your images?
A: Yes! But you MUST stipulate in your terms of use that artists credit both you as the provider and me as the original photographer on their deviations.

Q: Can I use your stock to make a twisted, sexually explicit fetish image that borders on the limits of conventional societal tolerance?
A: Yes! That kind of stuff really amuses me. I am a cataloguer of the human condition. (Ok, no one has ever actually asked me this, but so many stock artist don't let you use their images for anything borderline deviant, I thought I'd make it explicit that I'm ok with it.)
